Film buffs - what does "dramatized by" mean?

I'm a Yank, and I enjoy watching a lot of BBC Television shows as well as Movies from the UK.

Recently, I bought the TV Series, Sherlock Homes, and during the credits there is a person who is given credit for "Dramatized by." I also see all of the same credits we use in the US such as Director, Editor, Screen Play written by, and so forth, but we have no credit for "dramatized by". It might be another name for some we do over her. Anyway, what does this person do when they "dramatize" a show.

Thanks,

1.To adapt (a literary work) for dramatic presentation, as in a theater or on television or radio.

    2. To present or view in a dramatic or melodramatic way.

It means someone has taken a written story and translated it into a visual drama.

Often a lot of things like sets are not totally explained in literature so if you're making a TV show you need to research what kind of pipe Holmes would be chugging on and the style of ashtray etc.
