What's the best way to feed 2 guinea pigs of different ages?

We adopted 2 male guinea pigs on Monday. One is 5 months old, the other is a bit under a year. Since piggies under 6 months of age should have a different diet than adults, what's the best way to do this? They share a cage, both have great appetites & had been getting Nutraphase which I'm transitioning to Oxbow Cavy Cuisine. Should I be giving the younger guy Cavy Performance? And should he be getting Alfalfa hay for the next few wheeks?

Thanks in advance. This is the 1st time we've had 2 guinea pigs together, let alone 2 of different ages.

@Gerbil Girl: We're talking about guinea pigs, not hamsters. Guinea pigs shouldn't be eating nutriphase or any low quality pellet with seeds and junk in it.

You should introduce them. The younger cavy can still eat timothy hay and cavy cuisine (timothy based pellet). You should just feed kale (high in calcium) to the younger piggie until she grows older.

Well, what I would do is get 2 exercise pens and put them together (one is too small) then put some towels/blankets down on the floor, put the pen against the wall (make it as big as you can with your space available, and add toys. This can be their own personal play area (which they need no matter what anyway). Then, put one of them in there when you feed them, and let him eat/run around for a few hours while the other one stays in the cage. Oxbow is a really great rand, so I'm glad your switching to it! Make sure they only get 1/8 cup each though, and you should also be giving them each 1 cup of veggies, and unlimited timothy or grass hay. You may already know all that just wanted to make sure. also, when you feed the one on the pen, you can spread out all the veggies so he has to go find them all. After, the one in the pen is done eating, you can bring the other there too, so they can play together and both get exercise. Good luck with your piggies! I recommend the sites below for more information on behavoir and care.

I have three guinea pigs - 18 months, 5 months and 7 months. I feed them all the same stuff. They get a grass/grain mix, plenty of veggies, meadow hay and water, and I give them a large handful of alfalfa hay every second day or so. They all look well fed (read: fat) and healthy. I don't think it would be a problem if you were to feed them the same thing, especially when they are so close in age.

one million. not so a ways as i know. it somewhat is somewhat unusual - maximum guinea pigs could get squished or fall away from mattress or poop and pee everywhere. Does yours somewhat try this? if so then this is one properly experienced piggy (even though verify you do not by danger roll on precise of it on your sleep)! 2. sure you may. different shops do not make a distinction. the suitable breeding age is approximately six months - you may desire to not breed them as quickly as their a 365 days previous although for their first littler, through fact their pelvic bones fuse and the two the mummy and toddler will die in childbirth. Feeding is an identical for all piggies, even though it somewhat is a good option to apply supplements interior the water bottle/bowl for terribly youthful piggies. you may desire to purchase them from all puppy shops. desire this helps!

baby guinea pigs copy their parents diet, therefore they eat the Same as what an

adult gpig would, just give them any guinea pig food.

sooo many people say many different things about their diet n that if it's not completely perfect, they will die, I'm not sayin I kno everythin bout em but I've been feeding my 9 year old gpigs rabbit pellets since they started eating(they were my old gpigs offspring, and given them vitamin rich vegies

don't let anyone on here pressure you or criticise how u look after ur gpigs btw I think it's wonderful that you adopted them and gave them a better chance at life :)

    hope I helped

Keep feeding them Nutraphase, that's what I fed mine. They loved it! (hamsters)
