Must I make advance reservations for travel around Portugal in July?

I am looking for some relatives and will likely starting in one area and moving about the country and likely will not know in advance where I am going to go. Is it relatively easy to find a hotel or should I try to find a couple of central locations in different regions and use them as a base?

I will have a car and I am an adult female.

    Hey!

depending on what areas of Portugal your going to... The algarve is the main touristy part so it should be easy there. But I wouldn't recommend it, its no longer real portugal.

If your in cities then it shouldn't be hard either... But if your going into the rural areas defiantly look into different hotels and print of maps etc. you wont necessarily need to book in advance but to know what your options are is always good.

    Definitely book plane ticket!

Just some extra info, Avo is a lovely place, gorgeous river spot, very friendly people, roman bridges and a small castle... There are a few english family's that go down there and some dutch etc...

I think it's always better to book in advance, airtickets and hotel especially, there is a great chance you will find the early-bird promo and the early-booked itinerary will make your whole journy more accurate and in order.
