A flower called Blue Ruin?

I was reading a book called 'Blue Ruin' and the author mentions that the blue ruin was overtaking a mountainside of daisies. What is blue ruin?

Is it something like bittersweet, rooting underground and growing up around the nicer foliage?

Update:

From what I gather from the story (title) it's a beautiful blue flower that overtakes everything.

    Well, having just done what you could have, my search did not come up with blue ruin', specifically, except as a band. There is a blue rue, but it sounds more like a bush, and a couple others, but I expected something on the order of kudzu.

    In the book it is described;

    "in serried ranks, tall spikes of blue ruin had shot up in luxurious bloom, every little gray-green, rolled-up, leafy spike fluting out in the deep weird blue of its tubular corolla."

    It also refers to the flower as viper' weed, which leads me to believe it is Viper's Bugloss. (see link)
