Why are some churches called Full Gospel?

I used to live in a rural area and I would see signs for "Full Gospel" churches. I just wondered why they call it that. Does it mean the church is full of people? Or does it mean they use all four Gospels and imply that other churches don't?

Update:

So far, I think Camille might be right.

Update 2:

The EXORCIST: you seem to know what you are talking about.

It is a throw back from the 1950’s when the phrase “full gospel” or “full counsel” was developed by Pentecostal fundamentalist as a reaction to non Pentecostals who in the view of Pentecostals of the day, were only partially teaching and preaching the salvation portion whilst omitting the charismatic elements amongst believers.

All in all it is a misnomer because those so called “full gospel” groups themselves focused their entire ministry on small portions of scriptures like John 3:16 and Acts 2:4.

Full gospel means that the church believes in the Bible, so healing, speaking in tongues, prophecy and such is believed in and done.

If it included the first four books of the Bible it would be called Full books, full Gospel means something different why are you so scared into stepping the full Gospel? Go find out if you have the guts.

It means they teach the whole bible not just the feel good parts. Some churches don't because they don't want to step on any toes so no one is heal accountable . God meant for all the Bible to be taught. so if you go to a full gospel some time or another your toes will get steped on and God will hold you accountable

Beats me. Don't those churches usually emphasize Paul's writings over the gospels?

Same line as Pentecostal, Assembly Of God.

  • It means their preachers do the Full Monty.
