I agree with Jim A...I am actually very new to this whole Digital SLR stuff....The settings, terms, (and sensors!) are all really confusing.

Before you decide on a camera, I'd suggest reading through all of this and making sure you understand all the terms. It's been helping me a lot, and it even has a section for figuring out what SLR is right for you! I was planning on getting a Nikon D5000 until I realized I really have no knowledge of the settings, so I'm planning on reading through this before making any important decisions, especially when cameras are expensive!

What you really should be asking is "do I have the skill to really operate a dslr? If you don't it doesn't matter because you'll get about the same result from either.

The point is, if you as a photographer aren't equipped to operate one of these you'll get the same results as you'd get from a point and shoot. Pick one or learn what you're doing. If you knew that you wouldn't be asking because you'd know the answer already.

If you are going to use it more than just occasionally buy the best you can afford. Your skills will grow further with experience and a better camera.
