why are the lakers going to play against dallas?

i officially don't understand the nba playoff format anymore... i thought the highest seed goes against the lowest seed.. that's why the bulls will go against atlanta.. number 1 seed against number 5. boston/miami is 2 seed vs. 3.

but if memphis defeats the spurs, shouldn't it be lakers against the grizzlies? 2 vs. 8? even on tv they've said it will be the lakers vs. dallas. i don't understand

    No it's 1-8 winner faces 4-5 winner and 2-7 vs 3-6

It doesn't matter which team wins, it's always like that.

So it doesn't matter who wins, they will have to face the Thunder.

EDIT: How don't bash him if you think it's a stupid question, this is a legit question. He wasn't sure so he asked us on the Basketball question and answer forum. No need to troll.

I'll give you an outline from the Western Conference-

    In the First Round:

The first seed, Spurs, plays the lowest (8th) seed, Grizzlies.

The second seed, Lakers, plays the 7th seed, Hornets.

The third seed, Mavericks, plays the 6th seed, Blazers.

The fourth seed, Thunder, plays the 5th seed, Nuggets.

    In the Second Round:

The winner of the Sprus-Grizzlies will play the Thunder (winners of 4th-5th).

The Lakers (winners of 2nd-7th) plays the Mavericks (winners of 3rd-6th). So in the Second Round, the winner of the 2 v. 7 plays the winner of the 3 v. 6 seeds.

    .

  • It has been winner of 1 8 plays winner of 4 5 and winner of 2 7 plays winner of 3 6 for a while now, hasnt changed.

The seeding only works for starting the brackets and the home court. Once the playoffs start you play by the brackets.
