why do people get fat with age?

You can see these really muscular men and sometimes women but when they get old they go fat pretty fat

Is this because they no longer exercise so their muscles loosened?

Our metobolic rates slow with age so we don't burn off what we eat in the same way. Also, with age the muscles can ache and stiffen with wear and tear over the years. Even if a person continued to eat healthy and exercise it's difficult to remain at that level of fitness.

Our bodies are constantly breaking down and rebuilding. Cells wear out and get replaced. For your whole life, cells (including muscle) only last for a certain amount of time. But as you age, your body doesn't rebuild as fast. So eventually it gets to a point where you can't maintain the muscles you have. Once the muscles shrink, you don't burn as many calories and you start gaining fat unless you eat less and start getting skinny. Exercise can help fight this off a bit, but there's only so much you can do without all of the hormones and vitality of youth.

Really muscular men need a lot of calories to maintain that size. And they really have a hard time adjusting their diet after their body can no longer maintain that muscle size. So they almost always end up fat.

Do you play sports? if so your more muscle than body fat. The whole BMI thing is miss leading because that takes your WHOLE WEIGHT in to account, and not just body fat. There are websites there that will help you determine your body fat percentage. I weighed about 145 at 14 and I'm 5'10" I'm 20 now and weight 129/131lbs. Keep in mind everyone is different (I know that is hard to remember), at the end of the day you are great the way you are.

Their skin continues to grow giving a draping appearance.

They don't necessarily get 'fat' but older

If they keep training they'll still be ripped. Look at Sylvester Stallone, he's like 60 years old and has an 8 pack.

Our metobolic rate slows down, yet we keep eating the same amount of calories. So we are not burning then up as we did when we were younger.
