Best HD media streaming device?
I currently have the Diamond HD Media Wonder (MP1000) which is a nice little unit. It plays movie files from my Windows 7 PC over the home LAN. It also has a USB port for connecting a local drive. It upconverts and plays a ton of different formats. But it has a few issues.
It's sluggish navigating around the menus at times. Recently it's had trouble seeing files- they're on the PC but when I browse those folders on the Diamond, either some files aren't displayed or the folders show as completely empty. Go back to the PC and everything is fine. This has worked well for about a year, but I'm guessing maybe there's a maximum number of files or folders this device can handle.
Rebooting both the Diamond and the computer doesn't change anything, so I'm wondering it there's a better similar device out there? USB connectivity isn't an option since this device is conncted to my A/V receiver along with a Blu-Ray player, DVR etc which connects to the 52" HDTV in the master bedroom. The PC sits in my office which is a different room in the house.
I need something which can be connected the same way, be controlled by a remote and do everything the Diamond does, including play Realmedia, avi, mpeg-4, windows media files, etc. I heard that Netgear's media streamer wasn't very stable, the remote locks up frequently with heavy usage. But maybe that was a problem fixed with a firmware update?
Let me know your suggestions- thanks!

Well, Kaleidescape produces some of the “best” media servers though I’ll take a wild guess and presume that such systems would be a little outside your current budgetary considerations.
A few of the more affordable products worth considering are:
D-Link
– BOXEE Box
– Boxee Box by D-Link
Syabas Technology / Popcorn Hour (A-200 or C-200)

HiMedia Technology Limited (HD600B or HD600A)

Patriot Memory - Patriot Box Office (PBO) Core Media Player or Javelin S4 Media Server
Roku Streaming Players

Roku is one of the most popular brands of streaming media players and may be worth consideration if streaming is the main priority. However there are better media server/player products worth considering; I have listed several of the more popular units above. I would start by looking at the D-Link Boxxee Box and the Popcorn Hour units. And when shopping for HD media players I recommend iboum.com to begin your research.
One of a few reasonably cost-effective alternative solutions may be to purchase one of the latest full-featured (DLNA Certified, UPnP) BD players equipped with (wireless) audio and HD video streaming capability from a manufacturer such as Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Denon, etc., or a PS3 with a third-party DLNA-compliant, UPnP media server OS. The biggest downside is that BD and universal disc players rarely support the broad variety of audio and video formats and extensions when compared to computer-based media servers and better turnkey media players.
