What was the airplane that Tom Cruise used in the movie TOP GUN?

Actually, Mr. Cruise is an accomplished pilot. He has several warbirds and a couple of P-51's among them he named one "Kiss me Kate" that I have personally seen him pilot. I doubt he could fly a Tomcat on his own.

USN F14 Tomcat, and tom cruise could'nt fly a kite, much less a jet.

It was a Tomcat, and Cherokee his ability to fly the Mustang is still in doubt too.
