Manny Pacquiao vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez in Mexico, if this push through, who win?
I came across an article that a certain person was offering Manny Pacquiao a $65M purse to fight an opponent most possibly Saul Alvarez in Mexico. http://sports.inquirer.net/4365/mexican-millionair... If this match up push thru, who do you think will win and at what weight it should. Saul Alvarez is a Light Middleweight and Manny is a Welterweight. Both have an experience in fighting in a catchweight. I believed this is not a bad match up although it is just my own opinion.
@ Kenny,
It was a certain Carlos Slim who wanted him to fight in Mexico for that amount. Sergio or Bradley has nothing to do with it and I am sure Manny Pacquiao is willing to fight two these two even at the same night for that kind of money any place, anytime. There is only one fighter that everybody knew of who refuse this kind of money for whatever reason. I am not sure if their going to do this or if the news is true. Just asking for opinions and thoughts.

Carlos Slim Helu is one of the top 4 wealthiest men in the world. He is owners of various industries in Mexico from telecommunications, oil, properties, and financial investments. Despite of his Arab heritage, he has been welcome by Mexico as one of its own. Carlos Slim Helu is a huge boxing fan and in Mexico, boxing is embrace as one of its favorite sport. Carlos Slim Helu's wealth of around $60 billion is about 7-8% of Mexico's total economy and he owns 90% of the entire tellecomunications in the country. Indeed, to him, $65 million is like bunch of pocket coins you want to get rid of because they are heavy on your pockets and you dont feel comfortable walking on it.
If this indeed is accurate that Carlos Slim Helo offered this fight to Pacquaio, then I believe this fight will happen. Pacquaio will not turn down such huge amount of money, especially for the fact that he knows that Pacquaio is embraced in Mexico and respected highly. I go in and out of Mexico multiple times. I have many friends who lives there and I have stayed in Mexico for several days on many different occassions. I speak Spanish and I comprehend Mexican culture pretty well. I have seen many Mexican fans embrace Pacquaio as much as they embrace their local fighters. This will be a great fight because both Saul Alvarez and Manny Pacquaio are toe to toe action fighters. However, at this momentum of their careers, Pacquaio's killer instinct would take over and the aggression of Alvarez will help Pacquaio win by TKO if the fight is at 147 or win by UD or late TKO if the fight is between 150-154.
By the way, Saul Alvarez has never fought at flat 154 ever in his career. He has fougth in 150 catchweight 3 times in his career and fought entirely at 147, so he should have not any problem with weight negotiations with Manny who also has fought between 147-150.

Manny Pacquiao will win but it won't be an easy fight. Saul Alvarez doesn't have the experience in his favor but he is much younger and bigger than Pacquiao, plus the advantage of staging the fight on Alvarez' country of Mexico. In boxing you can't underestimate the underdog since their is always an upset from a 1 big punch and from a bad preparation of the other fighter.
I think the best step to make this proposed match-up to be more exciting is for Pacquiao to win big against Juan Manuel Marquez, which is also a Mexican, which will refresh the Mexican-Filipino rivalry in boxing. Another step is for Alvarez to win big also against Ryan Rhodes, to silenced critics that Alvarez is not yet ready for a Pacquiao fight. Another step is for Alvarez to challenge a bigger name in boxing at the same month Pacquiao will fight Marquez, to make him more popular, maybe against Paul Williams. A match-up of 2 Mexicans with bright futures is also a good step for a huge Pacquiao fight, "Canelo Alvarez vs. Victor Ortiz". The winner will have a chance of fighting Pacquiao in Mexico next year and it won't ruin the plans of Carlos Slim to match Pacquiao against a Mexican fighter since Alvarez and Ortiz are both Mexicans.

Saul Alvarez has done nothing to suggest he could beat Manny Pacquiao. He beat welterweight Matthew Hatton to get a jr middleweight title and all of a sudden he's being lined up for Pacquiao lol!
He'll be lucky if he gets past Ryan Rhodes because Rhodes is no mug and he's certainly no Matthew Hatton lol! If Saul beat Rhodes and then beat a name like Cotto or any other big name in the 154 division then maybe but as of right now he's not ready to fight Manny Pacquiao.

This is not just about Pacquiao, Alvarez, Martinez, catchweight or whatever! This is about the richest man in the world trying to get what he wants, and I'm sure he will get it (hopefully). This is going to be a great fight. Alvarez is a great fighter, though young. But who knows, he could win. Win or lose this is good for his career. There is no shame about loosing to the #1 pound 4 pound fighter in world. But at least, Pac is fighting someone who will fight back! Trust me! It's going to be a good fight.

$65 M is a lot of money for anyone to refuse. Only PBF has been reported to have refused that kind of dough and he is being criticized for it as being out of his mind, so, if the offer is true, then, let the negotiations commence. Canelo is an excellent boxer but has not had much experience yet. He is more natural at the weight he is fighting and could give Manny a run for the money. I would hope that Pacman can outbox him and probably will, but I don't think he will be able to knock him out. Pac by UD.

Interesting! That's a lot of money. Pacquaio should accept that money because he can probably knock out Saul Alvarez. But again, we dont know if this is still official. We still have to wait for Arum or Koncz to make it official that the offer has been made. I kind of wanted to see Victor Ortiz vs Pacquaio as Arum said Ortiz was the next likley candidate if Pacquaio beats Marquez. But Saul Alvarez is also an exciting fighter.

This fight should not even be considered. Pacquiao is Pound for Pound best in the world and Alvarez is a young prospect still making his way up little by little. It would be insanity to put him in the ring with Pacquiao. He has done nothing to deserve that opportunity and if the fight was made there is no doubt in my mind it would end with Pacquiao beating him by TKO

Another cherry pick fight by Pacquiao! He can easily fight Sergio Martinez at 160 for his 9th title or maybe fight Andre Ward at some kind of catch weight around 164. If Pacquiao is really looking for a challenge and wants to prove he is the pound for pound king, he should take on Timothy Bradley or just retire with his legacy in a huge asterisk!

Saul Alvarez is not ready for Pacquiao, he still has a lot to learn and they want to pit him in with the p4p king no way, Alvarez gets KO'd brutally
