How many pounds (tons) of Mercury are used?

to make Thimerosol each year?

(I have been reading "The Age of Autism" (Olmsted and Blaxill) and the most depressing thing is that thimerosol has not yet been completely phased out)

Update:

"You get much more simply by having Salmon for dinner, or lunching at a Sushi Bar. " need source, preferably showing adjustments for body weight of newborn infant vs. adult, toxicity of ethyl vs. methyl mercury, and vulnerability of still growing vs. adult brain, and consideration of genetic errors causing problems in mercury detoxification.

You are a man with an agenda, obviously. Despite Dr. Jenny McCarthy, M.D.'s rants to the contrary, there is absolutely no bonafide evidence of mercury causing Autism. The amount of mercury in a vaccination is trivial. You get much more simply by having Salmon for dinner, or lunching at a Sushi Bar. Yet, you are obviously trying to prove that there is. Thimerosol is not yet phased out because it serves a very useful purpose, preserving life-saving vaccines. You are obviously way too young to remember the days when Diphtheria swept through our schools, or to actually contract Whooping Cough, or to realize that we do NOT have many fatal illnesses kill off our kids because they were vaccinated. Indeed, in your attempt to "help" people, you unwittingly set them up for fatal epidemics if you do not vaccinate them against all common childhood illnesses. Thimerosol is a very safe and effective preservative. It makes wiping out epidemics before they start possible. We do not yet fully understand Autism, but we DO know that the link between thimerosol and Autism is simply not there, no matter what Jenny says.
