Research the types of bariatric procedures you could get. Each one does different things and your anatomy will look different. Google images of bariatric surgery.

I am 16 and preparing to have gastric bypass surgery. I am 5 feet tall and 260 lbs which puts me at a BMI of 50.8. I decide on RNY because of my BMI, conditions it helps with, and I did not want to deal with the maintenance the bad could possibly produce. I researched every detail for pre-op and post-op care. Luckily my health insurance pays for it.

I am on this support site that has been up for years. You should really check it out. There is a ton of information and members who have had various types of bariatric surgeries at all ages. There are new members and old members that have the best advice and tips on insurance, post-op or pre-op care, and even to lend encouragement.

Hey there. Well I've seen a lot of tv shows about getting gastric bypass and lap band procedures..so I'm not exactly an expert. Personally I would think gastric bypass is a better idea because the with the lap band, a lot of problems could occur after the procedure. It can slip, fall off etc. Plus, it's just not natural to have something like that in your body. With the bypass, at least you don't have some random thing squeezing your stomach. I assume with the lap band you have to get it out of your body at some point? Which means that's 2 times you have to go under the knife. At least with bypass it's only one time. anyway, hope I helped a little

make sure you don't eat just to be eating and you really have a weight problem not an addiction before getting it!! b/c if you over eat you bust your stomach! and you will eat like a bird.... not a lot at once!
