The 'queen' of YA Contemporary.?
So, I wanted to know who people viewed as being sort of the queen of YA contemporary authors (recent ones, that is). The choices are:
Meg Cabot, Sarah Dessen, Jennifer Echols, Lauren Myracle, Elizabeth Scott, Other (please specify!)
You can base your decision off of number of published books, fan-base, number of sales, personal choice - whatever. I'm really just curious as to what people say :)
It's CONTEMPORARY authors. JKR does not write contemporary.

For me, it would be Melina Marchetta and E. Lockhart.
Both are popular enough to have a fanbase, but they have critical acclaim as well and have won a number of awards.
And both of them have a way of writing about teen life that is very honest and representative of things young people really go through, but they do it without writing about stereotypical characters or situations. Plus -- and this is a big one for me -- they have a way with language, and this is a huge component of their books. I get bored with strictly commercial, plot-based novels because they don't do anything new on the language level. But Lockhart and Marchetta always surprise me with how they use language. Yay language!
