How to pack when traveling to New York City?
My girlfriends and I are taking a trip to New York City this coming Sept. We will be on the go all day. I need to know how I can dress from day to evening. The first day we will end up at a Broadway musical and have no opportunity to go back to our apartment. The third day we are taking a bike ride in Central Park and then more sight-seeing until evening with no opportunity to change. Thanks for the help.

Obviously you will want shoes that are comfortable for LOTS of walking. New York is a very pedestrian-friendly city. Slopping along in flip-flops will destroy your feet. Wear shoes that offer support. For the theatre, people tend to dress up, so perhaps you could carry along a sweater to put on over your comfortable day clothes to look a little dressier, especially if you have dinner at a nice restaurant beforehand. For your bike ride in Central Park (what fun!) and subsequent sightseeing, casual clothes are appropriate. Do be sure to visit The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park at the northern tip of Manhattan. It is one of New York's coolest museums but is often off the average tourists' radar. The park is cool, too. Your admission ticket to The Cloisters is also valid all day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Two awesome museums for the price of one! It's one of the city's best bargains. For something that is free and tremendously cool, take the subway into the first stop in Brooklyn (OK, that part's not free), hop out and walk back to Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Have a great time in the Big Apple!
