What word describes a path made by taking the most direct route as opposed to the one meandering one laid out ?

I am trying to remember a word that describes a path created by taking the most direct route. Often made in the grass when a shortcut exists.

I continually attempt to take the direct path. that is greater convenient interior the top because of the fact once you're a meander you need to in many circumstances bypass back and retrace your steps and do issues returned. i could somewhat do issues staggering the 1st time and not hassle approximately it. besides, i'm the right age to comprehend greater valuable. i'm happy you taught the beginner a lesson!!!

Slalom. But very few people are familiar with that word except as a winter sport. The only other common phrase is "path of least resistance". Also called "shortcut".
