Short story idea help?

Make it that it was the girl's birthday and the dad had to go to a meeting while promising her that he will make it to the party, but his boss tells him to stay longer and he does, so when the party finishes the girl calls her dad and he tells her he won't make it, so she cries (or not ) and goes outside and accidentally slips and falls in the pool.

They were taking a ride though Death Valley. They drove really deep into it and were on some back roads when suddenly the truck stopped--it was out of gas. The dad used the last of his spare can of gas on a friend's car (his friends car stopped on the highway because the tank was dry. I mean, who can afford gas nowadays anyway?). Because they were on a back road, there was a one in a thousand chance of someone finding them. So the dad decided that they should walk to the main road for help. At about noon, they reached some crossroads and the temperature was climbing. They only had one bottle of water. The dad chose a road, but instead of leading them out of Death Valley, it led them further in. To make a long story short, they spent one night in the desert, all of the water was gone by early noon, and the daughter's four-year-old body couldn't take the heat, and she went to sleep for good.

how about he was supervising her but then he left to go answer the phone. meanwhile, the little girl is swimming around and her hair gets caught in that thing that sucks in water (idk what it's called but i hope you know what i'm talking about) anyway, she's so little and tiny that she can't get out and she ends up drowning. and then the dad comes back...

What if she "falls" off of a cliff, or they decide to go snorkeling and her oxygen tank "doesn't work."

what about a car accidents or food poisoning? something like that I guess???
