why dont my hyper links get high lighted?

You have to achieve a certain ranking within yahoo answers before your links will become operational. If I remember correctly, you must be at a level 2. As soon as you achieve that ranking, your links will automatically "work" and any future links you post in your answers will also work immediately. In the meantime, your links will have to be copied / pasted into the browser in order to access the link. I suppose this was meant to weed out anyone looking for free links without being willing to be an active member of the yahoo community.
