Okay, so my dad knows somebody that takes all of his customer's addresses off of a website and then puts them on a post card and sends them... so there are over 5000 people's names and addresses on this website... and he wants to make each of those people a postcard (the same for each person). His buddy told him that he uses smart business pack (available at officemax for $30) and then he sends the postcard files to vistaprint.com??? then they make the label and send it.... can somebody explain to me how this program works and if these are the best and cheapest way to do it? thanks

For more than a 1000 piece test mailing one usually oursources everything to specialty services (vistaprints has the paper), one mailing service charges you the cost of first class postage to print addresses and mail the postcards, they make money by using lower cost sorted by zip code postage.
It pays to test the conversion rate of more than one postcard design, results can surprise even experts. Hand crafted simple postcards tend to do better than slick magazine style ads, which all too ofter vanish in the first trashcan sorting stage,
