Eternet port on Viera 42" U Series?

I notice there is a eternet port on Panasonic Viera 42" LCD TV, What it it for? I i browse the internet? If can does it have a internet broswer?

Do explain to me what is it for?

    Its not really for browsing the internet. It can access internet to support the Viera cast apps on the Tv. It can also be used to stream media on your home network.

    The apps may be Netflix, Youtube, News and Weather. I have a similar app system on my Panasonic Blu ray player.
