addiction and psych meds?

they say that psych meds are not addictive. i am hooke3d on them and dont know what i would do without them. they do bring out my addictive behaviors. how do psych meds effect your addictions?

    Sharon ... some medications are very addictive like benzos. Others are not so much addictive, but require gradual tapering off to minimize major brain chemistry changing side effects. It takes the brain time to adjust to any change whether it be a dosage change, etc. Psych meds usually help patients significantly. The key is to work with the psychiatrist to determine the right medicine/dosage mix for them, as each patient is totally different. When a person stops taking a medication, the original reason why they took the medication in the first place returns at some point. If medications seem to enhance addictions, the psychiatrist needs to be informed so that medications may be changed/adjusted. Chip
