in modern times ' status' usually means green card approval process.

historically, marriage was the means by which a filipina gained status and independance in society.

traditionally, an unmarried filipina girl or woman would be regarded as a child, subservient and obedient to parents, until marriage, when she gained 'status' of being an independant person, able to make decisions, and to be taken seriously by society. this is typical of most asian cultures, and much of china was even more strict on women, who would only gain status after marriage, and giving birth to a male son.

thus marriage was about the only venue of upward social mobility for females, in most asian cultures, including the philippines, but also the ceremony in which the female gains the 'status' of a full, adult, meaningful member of society. marriage transforms her from dutiful daughter child, to adult, co-equal, head of her new family unit.

the capacity of the husband (and sons) to be a 'good provider' is a basic measure of how well a woman has married, and is somehing like a yardstick for the new 'status' in her extended family, community, and society.

in modern times, an unwed daughter living at home, may be the primary breadwinner for a large extended family, and have wages or income higher than the parents, but tradition gives her little 'status', and in some sense even her income 'belongs' to her parents, due to her unmarried, childlike, status.

Her status will only improve by being with you if she is of the lower class. If she was a high class lady then it would look bad for her to marry a non-asian man so her status would decrease.

Asian women in America only date Asian men the majority of the time and that is because Americans don't care about status and thus date and marry the person that they enjoy being with.

A Filipina could actually hate a foreign man in the worst way and still have the sweetest romance with him everynight and marry him.

Status is an old , outdated and very primitive form of reference to someone in society. Thier place on the social ladder or standing in society. Developed countries gave this crap up decades ago and nowadays people are percieved for thier contribution and worth to society, not ''who'' they are or know or what the family owns or does. Status is now a 3rd world idea that because you have something no-one or few others have it makes you special. Its a load of crap and only supported by shallow and insecure fools who have nothing better to do than worry about everything and everyone elses situation. Forget it and anyone who talks about it, they are just tiny minded individuals who have a very large self esteem problem.

She will be looked upon as a rich person because all the people here think that foreigners have a lot of money. You are meeting her the right way by a friend instead online.

BTW What tribe if I may ask? I am part Cherokee.

"Criss" when I type in Filipina them spell checker says it is wrong & suggests Filipino, Filippo or Filippa. LOL Check it out!

Having a boyfriend from outside the Phil will make her appear like a big fish in a small pond. As for not wanting money or visa, just wait and see.

Be very very careful, these women are notoriously dishonest, manipulative and immoral. Not all of course but a vast majority.

Yes, nice little story...but you haven't actually met this lady yet.

A change in status to me means an upward or downward movement...so her status will improve if she's in a relationship with you, right?

    It's Filipina, btw, that's how it's written.
