Who thinks this is fair?

At the place where I kept my horse I found out that the price of hay was going up in leaps and bounds. The lady who runs the yard was charging me £85 for a large bale with four ropes round it. I recently found out that the supplier was selling it for £45 - £60, so II ordered 14 (large) small bales for £70 which I thought was fair as it looked good stuff and gave him £10 tip for unloading it.. When I told the owner what I'd done because she was ripping me off by £15 to £45 per bale (probably in her pocket!) at my expense, she asked me to leave. This was after charging me 30 per week for a small area to store my 14 bales. (approx 4ft x 8ft) What do you think? She said I run this yard, I buy the hay and you buy it from me. I felt really put upon because I did so much work around the farm for nothing in return.

Luckily, withing 2 days I have found and installed my horse in a better place. Much fairer.

Update:

Thank you all so much for your answers, those of you who are "on my side" . She has now a yard with six horses and ponies of her own plus a 5 month old colt foal and NO liveries!!!!!

It is very difficult to vote for a best answer, so I'll mentally vote you all (not much help for your points though - sorry). We have settled in and doing great, thanks.

She sounds like a real *****, but it's her place. Maybe if you'd asked her about it she wouldn't have been so mad?

Thats not fair at all. She was making a profit for no good reason! I buy hay bales £35 which last me a month and the owner makes about £4.00 profit. Also, charging you £30 per week to store hay bales is ridiculous! At my yard (which has 50 horses) they charge me £20 a week for a stable and i can use all riding facilities including a jumping field and menage. A field is £8 a week with all riding facilites. Good job you moved there, seems like a greedy money making person to me. Hope you have better luck in the new place:)

That's how basic business works. She gets the hay from suppliers, who charge her money. You get the hay from her, and she charges you a bit more. Do you honestly believe that what you buy at the grocery store is marked at the exact same price as what the store bought it from the manufacturing company for? No. Do you think that t-shirt you bought not too long ago was marked for the exact same price as the store got it for from the warehouse? Nope. It's just how business works, and no offense but you'd be stupid if you thought it worked any other way.

Now, I do understand that times are rough, money is tight, and she is over-charging you. And yeah, it is a lot cheaper for you to get it straight from the supplier than getting it from her. BUT what you are not thinking about is that this is her business, charging you extra for hay is possibly one of the ways she makes ends meet, which keeps your barn open for you to continue using.

I won't say the situation was handled correctly, but then again this really isn't a matter of being fair. It's a matter of business. And in business, it simply won't do for the customer to cut out the middle man.

Thank for status up and do the jihad. My young little ones bypass to a Muslim college and in that college there are various Christian and Hindu instructors yet they are informed to alter them self in accordance to the faculties polices. interior the college my young little ones are been theory each thing in Islamic way interior the morning in the time of the assembly all of the youngsters would desire to recite kalma (i'm hoping the spelling is stable) no mater which faith he follows. It replaced into their mom and dad option to deliver them to a Muslim college so enable them to stay with our teachings. i'm going to declare that the administration of the college is fairly undesirable and that they do no longer worry Allah, somebody who fears Allah does not supply up the compliment of Allah because of the fact they do no longer basically like the Adhan. would Allah instruction manual them to the splendid course and instruct them the way out (Ameen). it is not significant how a lot human beings combat against Islam we are ultimately the winner no one would have the potential to wipe out Islam Inshallah.

You're lucky she kicked you out. Obviously she is taking advantage of everyone for reselling hay at a huge profit. Hopefully your new yard owners are more honest.

It's not a matter of being fair or not....it's HER yard and HER rules.

If you don't like her rules, then you move. That's just how it is when you don't have your own place.

Personally, I'd have told her first that I would prefer to get my own hay, before getting it. If she protested this, then I'd tell her about making a deal. If she refused that, then I'd just find another place and move.

As for you working at the farm....you should have had a contract written about what you will do and for what in exchange.

There are always people willing to take advantage of you with your permission.

Don't give anyone permission to do that anymore. Learn your lesson from this.

If you work you should be clear as to what you expect in return...always.

It wasn't very nice but it isn't unfair either. You should have not gone behind her back if you had an agreement to buy hay through her. She is right it is her barn and she had ever right to ask you to leave for not keeping to the agreement. It wasn't her fault that you agreed to her prices without checking around first. So yes I do think it is fair.

I think that's unfair. If you managed to find a better price than her's that's her fault for charging so much. Good that you found a better place.
