Purpose of Yahoo Answers?
To what degree do you think Yahoo Answers is devised by western governments to lure intelligent response to their plans and expose dissenters?

Yahoo Answers is just one of the more or less successful networking phenomena present on the internet which was devised by people for commercial ends. The internet was not devised by governments for any purpose: it was devised by an intelligent individual with vision and developed by other intelligent individuals with flair and creativity.
However, governments have not remained insensible to the potential of the internet to locate and monitor dissenters, as well as people who do present a real threat to their society. YA was not devised by governments, but I am pretty sure it is monitored by them.

Hello my friend,
I just found out that you have a pilot license and a sailing yacht. From your avatar, it also looks like you are probably my generation. I own a Kitfox aircraft that I fly a lot and I have sailed for half a century various sailboats, three times across the Biscay (but never stopped in Christchurch). I can't find your email address so I use this opportunity, to welcome you to Yahoo!Answers. I think you will become a frequent answerer on the Weather section, won't you? ;-)
For me, Yahoo!Answers is simply a place where I can learn about meteorology and learn how to formulate good answers in what is not my mother tongue, because I teach it to pilots in my club ... in yet a different language, here in Norway.
You get points for answers and points for giving the best one. But those points are ... pointless, if you'll excuse my pun. If they were peanuts, one could, at least, have a snack! ;-) No, it's just for the fun and the pleasure to read, learn, and write. The scientific sections of Yahoo!Answers are nice and friendly but ... don't venture in the politics or religion ones!
Anyway, welcome and best regards from a Belgian from Norway (yes, confusing, isn't it? :-)

Well that cunning ploy rather depends on getting "intelligent response" - have you read the vast pileof twaddle passing as answers?
