My HP 9750 PC boots up and the monitor goes into sleep mode. Put the monitor on another computer and it's fine?

This isn't a laptop.

So, this is a laptop PC and you attach a monitor to its SVGA port? Does its primary display turn on initially, before you could plugin the external monitor?
