Sandberg, as mentioned above, would be a significant risk at this level, no doubt he will get an appointment, possibly back with the Cubs, after the recent change in GM.
Bobby Valentine would be the high profile manager needed to lead a major club like the Sox...he could also put the ship in order, so he would be my first choice.
Boston is a good situation to jump into, because the club could be immediately back in the post season.

Honestly though Bobby Valentine, or Ryne Sanberg would be great - currently with the Philly's minor League
