When should college seniors begin looking for their first "real" job?

My roommate and I are set to graduate in May. However, our school is of little help in the job search process. Would getting an early start work to our advantage or are companies not ready to hire until April/May? Thanks in advance!

It'd be smart to start networking now. Get contacts, ask questions, start nudging your foot in the door. While you're at it, use this time to work on your resume. You can ask your school's career services department for help. If the companies are hiring in April or May, I'd start looking for a job after New Years. No human resources worker is going to be eager to read through fifty resumes right before they're off for the holidays.

You start in early November of your senior year. They hire for you to start in April/May but the process starts much sooner.
