MTB crank replacement?

So my 1988 or so Diamondback Sorrento MTB that I use for commuting and a 25 miles ride twice a month needs new chainrings and they go with the crank. I knew it needed a cassette and chain, but I thought the rings were ok. They weren't. I got 28-38/48 now and I would get the same. Can anybody recommend a set? I have taken them apart before and I know how to replace them but I never ordered one, so I am a little insecure about what to buy. I would like to keep the price below $50. I am planning to do the Kati trail in spring with that bike.

Thanks.

Update:

@John - Is that any good? Or would you recommend something else?

I suggest that you get a crank with replacable chainrings like the Shimano Alivio FC-M411. They are about $50.

If it were me, I would probably go for a SRAM Via crank and bottom bracket, or maybe try and find a Shimano Deore crank for a square taper bottom bracket. I am not a big fan of riveted on chainrings.

EDIT: Here is a source for M400 series cranks for a good price http://www.qbike.com/listing/Shimano-Cranks/

Crank hands fall off all the time if the owner of the motorbike would not verify how nicely the nut grew to become into tightened. now and lower back cranks on low end motorcycles are no longer o.k. machined to the appropriate tolerances and don't in good condition the spindle o.k.. The nuts have serrations on the lower back area so as that they do no longer come loose. changing the backside bracket spindle won't help a affordable crank stay to tell the tale any further useful. Spindles that use bolts are hollow, consequently lighter than ones that use nuts. There fairly is only no longer any progression in case you alter spindles, you in all probability want a sparkling crank

You can get a new crank set for that amount.

Shimano Altus 7/8 Speed Mountain Bicycle Crankset - Black - FC-M311

    Edit:

That crank is probably better then what is on the bike now. I would give you a link from Amazon but Yahoo wont let me.

It worked that time sleect the gearing you want.
