Connecting Two Computers With One Screen/Keyboard/Mouse?

I'm looking to connect my old desktop to my laptop and utilize only the laptop's screen, keyboard, and mouse to run both the desktop and the laptop simultaneously.

I've got wireless internet for the laptop, but not for the desktop (the location for the router is at the other end of the house, thus running a LAN cord will not work), so using the WiFi to access the desktop won't work. Possible with a USB or LAN cord connected from the laptop to the desktop to work?

Laptop's running Windows 7 32bit, desktop's running XP 32bit.

I'll be using the desktop as a server (running a 3rd party source/Ubuntu Server), or just as an 'external hard drive'.

relies upon the place the computers are and what connections there are between the computers. The flat out maximum inexpensive way is unplug the printer from one computing device and plug it into the different. that is unfastened yet a bore and could no longer artwork if the printers are miles aside. the subsequent maximum inexpensive is that in the event that they are the two on the comparable community. proportion it out from one computing device and on the different computing device connect a community printer. it extremely is going to be on the IP handle or call of the printer that does the sharing and could have the call you shared it out as. you would be able to desire to in hassle-free terms verify you have report and printer sharing on the computing device doing the sharing out and the microsoft sharing customer on the different computing device. Then that is in hassle-free terms a question of putting it up. enable sharing in domicile windows if it grow to be disabled good click the printer, opt for 'properties' and then the sharing tab. on the different computing device use the 'upload printer' wizard to characteristic a community printer. the two computers could desire to be powered up for the only utilising the proportion to print... yet no longer for the only immediately under pressure to the printer to print. any incorrect way will value your cash. thoughts are: Printer change including networking between the two computers community print server (via then you definately've spent plenty money a low priced printer could be greater interior of your budget)
