My dog's black nose is turning pink?

I have a Shar Pei/ Pit Bull mix and he has a black nose. Here recently, his nose has had a pink tip... and it's getting bigger and bigger. There's no scratches on his nose or anything... What's going on?

From your description, your dog may have Nasal Solar Dermatitis, often called collie nose or snow nose. He could also have lupus or even skin cancer! It is time to take your do to the vet for an exam and evaluation. Whatever it is, you want it treated quickly and correctly so you need an accurate diagnoses from a vetinerarian.

Here is a link which gives an overview of skin diseases that might be affecting your dog. http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/skin/c_dg_Nasa...

Hope this helps and please make an appointment with the vet! ; )

Snow nose. It will likely start turning black again in summer. The nose is I believe the only skin on the dog capable of producing melanin in reaction to sunlight. In other words, in the winter many dogs' noses turn pink and then black again in summer.

This is called snow nose. In the fall/winter time when there isn't much sunlight, a lot of dogs with noses that are black in the warmer months have their noses turn mostly pinkish. Come summer it will darken again.

I've seen that before it can either due to it getting older or it could a reaction to something. If your worried about it id do some additional research

Both breeds can have oddly pigmented skin, and changes in skin color. I would ask your vet.
