How to password protect a photo file on Windows?

The wife and I are worried our kids might find some fun photos we have taken. Is there a way to password protect them? We are using Windows 7.

no, but there are 3 options..

    1. create user accounts for your children and then they will not be able to access your files.

    2. create the pictures folder that you are referring to and then "hide" it.

    3. If you are using a desk top computer then buy a second hard drive then you can completely block all other users from accessing that entire hard drive..

Not without additional software. Sorry. There is no provision in Windows XP itself to password protect individual folders. The most secure way to protect your sensitive files (and expensive computer) is to password protect your ENTIRE Windows account, allowing no one else access to it. Just go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Change an account. After you set-up a password then choose to make your folders private. Now, if you must let anyone else use your PERSONAL computer (not recommended), you should set up a Guest Account for them with limited privledges. Go to Start > Control Panel > User accounts > pick an account to change > Guest. Not only will a Guest Account keeps your data safe from prying eyes, your computer will also be more secure as the limited privledge Guest account will not allow the inadvertant installation or download of any programs by others. Nor will they be able to screw-up your settings! Good luck.

Add the images to a Microsoft word document, then password protect the file.

OK, you can use a file encryption program like: http://www.encrypt-file.com/

With it, you can set password to any files and folders on your computer. and you may read the step by step guide on this website.
