Older pregnant mothers?
I'm looking for feedback from either pregnant or mom's who have delivered after the age of 35. I'm just curious if anyone has had any problems with their pregnancies since they are considered "high risk." Is your baby okay? Any problems during pregnancy or after? I'm just curious because you always hear that mothers over the age of 35 are at higher risk for having a baby with down syndrome or another abnormality, but I've personally never known anyone to have any problems after the age of 35. I'm sure it happens, but I was just wondering how often.

I was a surrogate and gave birth to twins at 37. I had soooo many issues that I never had previously. Swollen feet that looked cartoonish like balloons (I'm relatively thin) and asthma attacks (I never had problems before). It all worked out, but of course, these were twins. I do NOT know how J-Lo or Mariah did it.
It took me about 6 mths to get my body back to normal (back pains gone, no more knee problems, loss of weight, etc.)
I suppose it is case by case. Others that I know who were older than I did very well with a single child.
My doc said that each case is different.

My sister was 36 when her daughter was born. Her daughter is now 12 -- healthy, normal, highly intelligent and without any health/education/psychological problems of any kind. But the odds of having a baby with Down Syndrome do increase with the mother's age. And having an older father increases the risk of schizophrenia and autism.

I've always heard this, but I've never met anyone it happened to. I think they take good care of you when you are older. There is now a new test they can do for this which doesn't involve going into the uterus. My daughter-in-law had this done and our little Rebecca is wonderful! (11 mths).
