Old TV show about kids saving animals with a professor?

I have no clue what name the show is but here is what I do know for certain.

1) Kids (probably preteens )worked at a rescue center for animals

2) They worked with an old man and he wasn't very helpful.

3) It was on Saturday mornings (IN the tri state area it was channel 32 either 8 or 9 o clock)

4) It was on 5 or 6 years ago

5) I think it was Kritter or creature something

If you could answer this that would be great!

I forgot it was live action too
