Blue Ray movie doesnt look like Blu Ray on ps3?
Im not sure if my question makes sense, but here's the deal.
I recently purchased a LG 47LK520 47 inch Class 1080p LCD HDTV along with a PS3. I have an HD box from comcast, and i also hooked up my PS3 to the tv with an HDMI cable. They work wonderful.
My only concern is when it comes playing Blu Ray movies. I heard PS3 is, if not, one the best Blu Ray players on the market. So yesterday i went out and bought Avatar in Blu Ray since i have once seen it at my brothers in law, and it looked AMAZING.
But when i try to watch it, it doesn't look like what i saw at bro in law. Not even close. I went online and tried to find on what settings i should have my ps3 on and what not, but its still not coming out to the quality i saw at my brothers in law. I have no idea what else to do. I already tried going out and getting another Blu Ray movie that i saw at a retail store being played, which also looked amazing, but it still didn't come out as good.

First, is your TV "calibrated"? In other words, have you adjusted the settings to optimize the picture? You can do this by using a THX Blu-ray movie (1st link) and choosing the THX Optimizer menu item and following the instructions. This will at least ensure you can see the best picture possible from your HDTV.
Once that is done, apply any firmware updates necessary for your PS3 and finally make sure the PS3 is set up correctly. See the article at the 2nd link for some advice.
You should get good results if you follow the advice above.
Note that this all assumes you are using an HDMI cable to connect the PS3 and HDTV. HDMI cable quality isn't an issue ... it either works perfectly or not at all in all but very rare cases.
Good Luck.

To find out if you have 1080p simply search your tv connctions and see if it says it anywhere or if you have the manual then you could find out there. For the highest video quality you will need an HDMI cable (like 20$). Bluray is not totally noticeable. The most noticable differences come with special effects and complicated shots if that makes sense to you. I wouldnt even recommend Blu ray right now because of the price and the PS3 makes DVD's look really good.

Well first of all your brother may have a better TV brand and expense can make a huge difference in picture quality. Many people recommend not using the PS3 for Bluray simply put that it can cause issues for playing games or it just puts more strain on the unit. It can also be the quality of the HDMI cable as well. Though I'm willing to wager a bet your brother has a better TV.

Go here, and look up picture settings. You'll have to find your model. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=...
Next, the number one thing I see when it comes to people saying that image quality doesn't look the 'same' as in did at the store or a friend's house is the 120/240hz thing. But strangely, this LG TV is 120hz, my only guess is that 120hz might not be on by default. Get into the video menu and see, since most TVs allow you to turn it off (usually it adds too much lag for gaming). Most TVs have this on by default but just in case check it out.
Me personally, I don't like that funky clear 'video' look, but some people see it and like it. It's called the 'soap opera effect' if you want to search it out on your own and learn about it.
