I am a civilian sending social mail to a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. What do I write on the envelope?

Is it Lieutenant John Smith or Second Lieutenant John Smith or Mr. John Smith?

    I always write the whole title to avoid confusion, there could be a few "john smith"s on the base with different ranks.

    Just their name, no rank! And if he asks for $$$, he is a Nigerian Scammer.
