Windows XP in restart loop - Help!?

My PC is in a re-start loop. It gets just to the point where you see that windows xp is loading and then automatically restarts itself. It's been doing this for days. Well, for hours over a few days. I have it turned off most of the time but turn it back on occasionally to check to see if it's still doing it. Turning off the computer didn't help. Turning off the powerstrip didn't help. Unplugging the powerstrip didn't help. contol/alt/delete didn't help. Starting with last known good configuration didn't help. It won't start in safe mode at all. I'm an idiot with no backup and I would really like to get this to start, even if only to transfer the documents. Any thoughts?

Update:

It's a desktop. So, I'm not sure if it has a battery, at least not one I can get to. It's an Asus. I don't have the start up disc.

If you have the original XP installation disc, you may be able to boot up from that. Put the disc in the player, then re-start your computer. It should then come up with a repair option. If you cannot do this, you will have to get a repair tech, and hope they can rescue the hard drive.
