Ever think about how bad crime would be if private citizens didnt have the right to own firearms?

The USA has, by far, a higher percentage of the population in jail and prison than countries with strict gun controls. Maybe we have it backwards.

Hey mr additional details - the ONLY accidental shooting that affected my family was when a rural cousin went hunting with his buddy and killed him while carelessly climbing over a fence. No city. How would you feel if I said that rednecks and hicks are too stupid to walk and carry a gun at the same time?

That said - I live in the only remaining state without a concealed carry law yet a friend was recently driving through the middle of a shootout on the expressway in the middle of the day......I guess there is no geographical or legal limitation on stupid, and most of the people I run across, in the city and in the country both, are too darned careless and stupid to be running around carrying lethal weapons. I don't trust them..

EDIT - thanks, I agree that we should not ban guns but it still scares the crap out of me when I look at some of the dummies out there who could be running around carrying weapons. ARRGH! It was sad what happened to my cousin but it was a long time ago; my point is, you don't have to be "too stupid to learn" in order to have an accident. You are correct!

In the past 3 years, there have been more "Shall Issue" states for concealed weapons permits. Approximately 40+ states to be exact. Since instituting legislation to allow for more concealed permits, crime rates have dropped to an all-time low, approximately 40%. Anti-gun crowds would say, "Well, if the crime rate has fallen, why would anyone need a firearm?" What they should say is, "Since more citizens HAVE firearms, crime has decreased".

We, as citizens, cannot carry a cop in our back pockets. Assaults, rape and murders can occur quickly, before police can ever respond to the scene to do anything about it. When you have a citizen, exercising his/her 2nd Amendment rights, they stand a better chance of survival against physical assault, than if they just relied on police alone.

Australia has a lot less crime than America and we have far more strict gun control.

Simple reality, no matter how bad you are or what drug you're on or how bad a day you've had if you don't have a gun - you cannot shoot someone.

Either self-defense would become obsolete against illegal firearms or there would be a police state on steroids to counteract it. I dont know which would be worse.

If no one had guns, maybe it wouldn't be that way, but there are guns here and if we were disarmed, as Obama wants, we know who will have the guns.
