New Puppy House Training?

New puppy is house broken with urinating and goes outside (via doggie door), but I cannot ever catch her "in the act" of pooping (she's sneaky), so no punishment given. By punishment I mean, I've house broken our other two dogs by catching them doing their business on the carpet, clapping my hands together and a firm loud NO and then putting them outside (large fenced in backyard) for a bit. They caught on quickly that it was a no-no to do it in the house. I don't whack, spank or - heaven forbid - rub their nose in the poop.

Any suggestions on what to do? (She's 9 weeks old, Schnauzer/West Highland Terrier mix.)

Update:

For some reason, my "edit" isn't showing. She's a house dog, so I can't keep her on a leash day and night. Also, our house is too small for a crate.

Keep the dog heavily supervised and crated when supervision is not possible. Supervision does not just mean being generally around, but actively watching the dog such that you could catch her doing a pre-poop sniffing routing, and getting her outside instead. Once she does go outside, give treats and verbal reward.

I keep my dog on a leash and he has learnd to whimper for everytime he needs to potty. It works great because this way he doesnt mark the entire house and he knows his designated area. Also no accidents inside house.
