Computing Rebar Hook length?

its says in the gen. specs that. for hook : either 1.) semi circular turn plus extension of 4 bars diameter or 2.) 90 degree turn plus extension of 12 bar diamters.... now its easy to compute for the extensions, 4d and 12d but how about the length of the turns?? do i need to compute that to det. additional length required???

Yes, absolutely. If it is difficult to calculate exactly you can simply make it longer than needed. The longer extension will provide either the same or greater strength in the steel/concrete composite.
