Everyone thinks that Roman and Greek Gods are the same except different name. That is not true. Most people call the gods by their Greek names since that was their original name. Well, some are just Roman like Janus or Pompona. When they moved to Rome, their appearances, attributes and personalities change also. And, Romans Gods are more warlike and they were more harsher and more powerful. So the gods in their Greek and Roman form are still part of them. That's all I know. :)

it is NOT the names that is the real difference between the Greek and Roman gods.

one is that the Greeks were the first. the Romans attacked the Greeks with out any "real gods". after they won the war, they knew that the Greeks were gone, so they took their gods and "fixed them" to fit their personalities and lives.

also, the Greeks were in Greece, and their powerful next door enemies, the Romans were from Rome before destroying the Greeks and moving in. so in other words the gods were "born" in different places.

the Greeks were more peaceful than the Romans and did not try to take over other cities or what ever. there for the gods that they worshiped had very different personalities.

the names DO have something to the difference, but it is not the fact that they are spelled differently or aren't the same, it is what they mean. since the personalities are different it doesn't make sence to be named something you aren't really. it's like being named mud or dirt, but you are clean. silly right? here is an example of 1 of the gods: Hades means "the rich one" and Pluto means "the silent one ".

i hope that this info will help anyone will the same question " What is the difference between the Greek and Roman gods. :)

Greek gods (small G) came first.

    They have Greek names.

Roman gods are Roman, evolved from the Greek, and have Roman names, then became the early Christian gods/saints.

Greek and Roman Gods play the exact same role for both of them. The only true difference is the name. For example Zeus, Hades and Poseidon are the Greek Gods. Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto are the Roman Gods. Zeus and Jupiter have the same exact background they only differ in whose God they are. Hopefully this helps.

They're the same beings, although they are different aspects. The Romans and the Greeks worshiped the same gods, but gave them different names. The gods and goddesses had the same personalities and such; they just had different names.

Source(s): I've read The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan & it basically said that
