Just got into urban fantasy/paranormal books- any recommendations?
I DO NOT like vampires. Just saying. No Twilight for me, either. I'm not interested in stories that are stuffed with romance, whether or not it's believable. In my mind, Romeo and Juliet were two teenagers so overwhelmed by hormones that it never occurred to them to check for a pulse.
I've read the Kim Harrison Hollows books, but I'm also discovering YA Urban Fantasy, Holly Black's Tithe and Valiant, the Wicked Lovely series, etc. I would love to hear what your favorites are in this genre.
Steve2- People like to read what they like to read. If there wasn't an audience for these books, then publishers would not publish them, and they would never end up on the New York Times bestseller list. Most of the books I've mentioned I know for a fact were on there. For your information, I also read mainstream classics that "relate to goodness..." If you're ragging on me because you think my interests sound distinctly Satanic/non-Christian, then let me inform you sir, that I am a Christian who reads her Bible daily and goes to church twice a week. I have several author friends who are Christian who write in these genres. If you still happen to believe that these interests are too "twisted", then you can take your ignorance and trollish comments far away- this is not the place.
CrazySoxRox32- they're sitting on my bookshelf right now. I really enjoyed them: enough to buy them. And I'm cheap.

I DEFINITELY recommend "The Mortal Instruments" series by Cassandra Clare. They are extremely interesting books that start out as an action book, but as you get a little further in the book, the two main characters reveal their feelings for each other, that is in the first book "City of Bones", at the end of the first book, there is a surprising twist which leads into the second book. In the second book, the two main characters are struggling to understand and deal with the twist that happens in the first book. The whole time, however, the girl, Clary, is fighting to save her mother, and the boy, Jace, is fighting demons and his dad. It has many plots throughout the books (six books in total, four already released). It is one of the most interesting and highly addictive series I have EVER read. They are also making a movie out of it, so when that is released you can claim you read the books. You should REALLY consider them. And I would not have written this long of an answer if I didn't love the books so much. You should really check them out! You'll be glad you did seriously!

Terry Brooks is taken under consideration one of my favorites. i like the way he writes. he's between the few authors accessible who has some diverse sequence that I study all of. he's have been given 3 sequence accessible precise now. The epic Shannara sequence, a solid fable sequence, battles for fact, magic, elves, dwarfs, trolls, hidden heritages... there are multiple them beginning with the Sword of Shannara. The word and the Void is a strange one that i'm nevertheless entering into reading so i'm no longer able to particularly permit you recognize what it extremely is all approximately, besides the incontrovertible fact that it extremely is a robust forces of solid and evil style of ingredient. starts off with working with the Demon. And the Landover sequence a pair of Chicago criminal expert who buys the kingship to a magic kingdom for a million funds just to locate that it is not particularly the suitable fable international that grow to be marketed. It starts off with 'Magic Kingdom on the industry-offered" i'm no longer able to do justice to the Landover sequence previous asserting that they are th reason i'm under no circumstances and not utilising a e book to study. Neil Gaimen is likewise solid. attempt Neverwhere. Or solid Omens which he wrote with Terry Pratchett. And once you're there, Terry Pratchett is rather solid and extremely humorous. you additionally can attempt the Artemis rooster books by potential of Eoin Colfer. it extremely is an exquisite sequence approximately an Irish boy genious who manages to thieve gold from the Leprecons. properly, the L.E.P. Recon unit.

Sounds a litle abnormal to me. Try to focus a little more on mainstream classics that relate to goodness...
