It is a social website that allows you to post pictures, quotes, websites, etc. You "follow" other blogs or people that you like, based on the content they post. Essentially you go around posting and "reblogging" pictures (where you take the picture they have posted and it becomes posted on your "wall"). For example, i have a Tumblr about comic book characters, I have about 1000 followers, and people can reblog my pictures to their comic book tumblrs. I intern follow other comic blogs to see cool pictures.

Tumblr is a microblogging platform on which users can make text, video, or photo posts. Tumblr is often used in two ways, in a deep, personal way to reflect and connect to your followers (people who get notified when you update your blog). It's also used to post and share things you like, stuff that you think is funny, amusing, interesting, or whatever.

You can follow certain topics (tags) that pertain to a certain topic. For example, if you really like asparagus, you can choose to follow a tag for asparagus, and any post with asparagus as a tag will show up in your tags.

Or, more simply, Tumblr is and endless scroll of your favorite crap. Make of it what you please, you'll never know unless you try.
