How can you say Jesus is God? Please read these Bible verses and explain?

"For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus," -1 Timothy 2:5

This is clearly stating that there is only 1 God. Jesus was just sent to die for our sins, and be the way to have a relationship with God.

"Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" -John 20:17

Isn't Jesus clearly telling the person he is talking to, that we share the same God as him?

The Trinity doctrine was created over 300 years after the death of Christ.. nowhere in the Bible is the word "trinity" even mentioned, and nowhere does Jesus tell us to worship him or pray to him. Same with the Holy Spirit. How can they all be the same God then?

In John 17:1-26, Jesus is clearly praying to God. How (and why) would he be praying to God, if they are the same God?

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." -Matthew 24:36

If God is an all-knowing God, then how on earth can one "version" of him know when Jesus will return, and another can't? It really makes no sense at all whatsoever.

"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone" -Mark 10:18

How can one "version" of God be truly good, and another can't?

Pleaaaassseeee, I know this was long, but I wish for explanations :)

Update:

Okay, well can you explain this? How can one "version" of God be in a higher position of another version, if they are the same God? Isn't that making them two separate gods, if one has a higher ranking than the other? Jesus clearly told the people that God was HIS God, and OUR God. I just can't see how you can believe in the "trinity" if the word isn't even mentioned in the whole Bible, and it was created and thought up by men over 300 years later..

Trinitarians cannot explain these Scriptures because the Trinity is an unscriptural doctrine.

Not only is the *word* 'Trinity' not found in the Bible, but THE ENTIRE DOCTRINE is not found either:

"Further, exegetes and theologians agree that the New Testament ALSO DOES NOT CONTAIN AN EXPLICIT DOCTRINE of the Trinity...."It is incontestable that the [Trinity] doctrine cannot be established on scriptural evidence alone." - The Encyclopedia of Religion, Macmillan Publishing Co., 1987, volume 15, p. 54.

"Neither the word Trinity, NOR THE EXPLICIT DOCTRINE as such, appears in the New Testament." - The New Encyclopedia Britannica, 1985, Micropedia, vol. 11, p. 928.

"Not only is the word `Trinity' not in Scripture, but THERE IS NO ISOLATED EXPOSITION on this attribute of God in either testament. It is an inferred doctrine, gathered eclectically from the entire Canon." - - p. 630 of the highly trinitarian publication, Today's Dictionary of the Bible, Bethany House Publishers, 1982.

."In the NT there is NO DIRECT SUGGESTION OF A DOCTRINE of the Trinity." - p. 344, An Encyclopedia of Religion, Ferm (ed.), 1945.

The trinitarian reference work, The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology, 1986, Zondervan, admits: "The NT DOES NOT CONTAIN THE DEVELOPED DOCTRINE of the Trinity."

    --------------------------------------…

You are also correct that the Trinity doctrine developed gradually over several centuries after the death of Christ:

"At first the Christian faith was not Trinitarian .... It was not so in the apostolic and sub-apostolic ages, as reflected in the NT [New Testament] and other early Christian writings." - Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics, Hastings.

"The doctrine *developed gradually* over several centuries and through many controversies .... It was not until the 4th century that the distinctness of the three and their unity were brought together in a single orthodox doctrine of one essence and three persons." - The New Encyclopedia Britannica, 1985, Micropedia, vol. 11, p. 928.

"The formulation `One God in three persons' was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith prior to the end of the 4th century." - New Catholic Encyclopedia, p. 299, v. 14, 1967.

"... the doctrine of the Trinity was of gradual and comparatively late formation; that it had its origin in a source entirely foreign from that of the Jewish and Christian scriptures; that it grew up, and was ingrafted on Christianity, through the hands of the Platonizing Fathers; that in the time of Justin [c. 100-165 A. D.], and long after, the distinct nature and inferiority [in comparison to the Father only, of course] of the Son were universally taught; and that only the first shadowy outline of the Trinity had then become visible." – p. 34, The Church of the First Three Centuries, Alvan Lamson, D.D.

"Jesus Christ never mentioned such a phenomenon, and nowhere in the New Testament does the word `trinity' appear. The idea was only adopted by the Church three hundred years after the death of our Lord; and the origin of the conception is entirely pagan." - The Paganism in our Christianity, pp. 197,198, Arthur Weigall.

  • THE CORRECT ANSWER:

    Jesus is NOT God.

JOHN 1:1 is a scripture that supposedly "defends" the trinity.

The King James Version reads: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Trinitarians claim that this means that "the Word" (Greek, ho lo'gos) who came to earth as Jesus Christ was Almighty God himself.

John 1:1 highlights the quality of the Word, that he was "divine," "godlike," "a god," but not Almighty God. This harmonizes with the rest of the Bible, which shows that Jesus, here called "the Word" in his role as God's Spokesman, was an obedient subordinate sent to earth by his Superior, Almighty God.

Note, however, that here again the context lays the groundwork for accurate understanding. Even the King James Version says, "The Word was with God."

Someone who is "with" another person cannot be the same as that other person. In agreement with this, the Journal of Biblical Literature, edited by Jesuit Joseph A. Fitzmyer, notes that if the latter part of John 1:1 were interpreted to mean "the" God, this "would then contradict the preceding clause," which says that the Word was with God.

When Jesus was baptized, God, Jesus, and the holy spirit were also mentioned in the same context. Jesus "saw descending like a dove God's spirit coming upon him." (Matthew 3:16) This, however, does not say that the three are one. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are mentioned together numerous times, but that does not make them one. Peter, James, and John are named together, but that does not make them one either. Furthermore, God's spirit descended upon Jesus at his baptism, showing that Jesus was not anointed by spirit until that time. This being so, how could he be part of a Trinity where he had always been one with the holy spirit?

EVEN Jesus himself didn't agree that he was equal to God, as the doctrine of the trinity states.

Proof of this is found in Philippians 2: 5,6: "Keep this mental attitude in YOU that was also in Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God."

If Jesus HIMSELF didn't think he was equal to God, then why should WE????

    The Trinity is made up.

  • There is no way I can say Jesus is God without lying.

    Thanks for the scriptures.

John 5:19 Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

John 5:30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

Matthew 26:39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

The bible is what is called "Faction" A fictional story set in a factual time and place. Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not!

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!

At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed!

Yes it is true that Jesus called the father God.

It is also true that the father called the son God, in Hebrews.

The Holy spirit has also been called God.

Yet there is only one God.

One God, manifest in three persons.

The father holds a greater position than the son, so it's not a contradiction for Jesus to give honor to the father as God.

    EDIT:

I think you need to see that there is a difference between the nature of some one and the position he holds. If I were to say that I am better than you, I would be insulting you because I am saying you have an inferior nature to mine and yet we are of the same nature, we are both human.

However it would be correct for you to say that the president is greater than you. Why? Because he holds a higher position than you.

In the same way, God is divine. That is his nature, he is eternal. That is his nature. And there is only one deity in existence : the God of the bible.

And, heres the confusing part: he is manifest in 3 persons., the father, the son, and the Holy spirit.

All 3 persons are one deity, one nature.

But each person has a different position than the other.

    EDIT

So it is not a Contradiction for one person to call another God. Neither is it a contradiction for one person to honor the other person.

It is not a contradiction for Jesus to say, God is greater than I am, because he is the father has a greater position than he does. Have you noticed that the father sends the son, and the son sends the Holy spirit? It's because of the positions that they Hold.

Our minds can never fully understand how all of this works, but God promised to give us the knowledge, and he will reveal mysteries to us in the new kingdom!

    Hope I helped.

John 17:11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

It gives Biblical evidence that Jesus is God.

The only explanation is that Jesus is not God Himself but as he always said he is the Son of God.

The scriptures prove the trinity doctrine of the catholic church is definitely untrue.

so you are saying that Jesus is the son of God?

Jesus was fully man and fully God. So he can be referred to as both.

God consists of a Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Three parts that are all the same. So when Jesus prays to God, he's praying to God the Father.

Jesus came in subjection, so when he refers to the Father as knowing more than him, it is because at that moment, he was in subjection - he was living as a man, as we all do.

"Why do you call me good."

The logic is as follows: No one but God is good; Jesus was good; therefore, Jesus was God.
