how to fix the lock mechanism on whirlpool duet washer?
the mechanism seems to of engaged without the door being shut, or it just simply doesn't work properly, so the washer sets off the door sensor

if your dishwasher is more than 5 years old you might want to consider saving up for a new one. Once they start breaking down it is sometimes more costly to fix. Parts, labour...and sometimes once it's fixed in one spot, another area breaks down.
I don't recall how much we paid to get our latch replaced, but it ended up breaking down again not too long afterward anyway. We just do dishes by hand now until we have saved enough to get a new one.

As time goes by, some parts wear, deform, springs weaken and break and plain get stuck. Before replacing the entire lock mechanism, try a little WD 40 to lubricate the parts.
