Cons, why do developed countries like Canada, Norway, and Japan get away with a socialist system but we can't?

They don't even have to spend trillions on useless wars. I understand that war may sometimes be necessary but was the war on Iraq really necessary ?

4,484 army men dead, 10'000's physically and mentally crippled, 100,000+ civilians dead and Trillions of dollars for what?

What could we have achieved if we spent these resources in the US on our infrastructure ?

Update:

Angry Canady - The constitution also guaranteed me the right of freedom of speech without having to " get a passport if I don't like it"

I'm Canadian and I think it's fair to say that a lot of our wealth comes from oil, etc. That being said it's not so simple. The US has a large public sector and social programs that range from food stamps to pharmacy plans. The US has large state operated enterprises like Amtrak and the TVA. So why is it that the US is not socialist, but every other democracy that has a large public sector/social programs/SOEs is socialist?

    1) They don't get away with it. Check out the cost of things in those places. Check out the reactions of some of the population to Socialism in those places. They are starting to crash. They're worse off than we are.

    2) Iraq War was to protect Kuwait and our resources and citizens there. We were requested, we came. When Afghanistan attacked, we ended the war in record time so we didn't have to suffer a two-front war. We had a decade-long cease-fire because of the UN. We rebuilt it to satisfy the very people who have made the argument YOU are making. The cost to win the war (topple the government) was small. I agree, NO MORE REBUILDING.

Enough of such garbage. They attack us or our allies, bomb them and tell them we'll do it again if they attack us. LEAVE US ALONE!

Japan has a public debt of over 200%, Norway is a small country with a huge resource sector, Canada is the same thing. I agree though, ending the neocon wars and spending the money nation-building America we could have built a colony on Mars by now...

none of that states are socialistic. The social coverage is not any area of socialism. each and each Citizen in Germany, France, Scandinavia, southern Europe will pay the dues for his kinfolk to the nationwide gadget of coverage or a private gadget. And if some fails in that gadget - that can take place to every physique: a prior genuine rated supervisor, actor, broker, wellness care expert or an basic mason, or a nurse and can't affort the dues for the coverage - we Europeans think of that each and every physique voters have earned the terrific med. treatment - wealthy or unfavourable. to call that socialism (no longer directed to the questioner) potential that usa is very out of any custom of the enlightenment.

Socialism can refer to two things: 1)direct government ownership of businesses or 2)redistribution of income via taxes, spending, and the welfare state. Canada, Norway, Japan, etc. generally have private ownership of businesses, but do have strong welfare states.

The US has declared itself to be a free nation. I can understand how that would offend those who seek to have control over others like socialists and communists. But, the Constitution clearly and boldly provides rights to Americans. If you don't like it, get a passport.

Actually, I never said you had to. I was generously sympathizing with your need to express your socialist beliefs in a nation that is more suited to your needs and desires.

"The US has declared itself to be a free nation."

That "freedom" includes the ability for the American Citizens to decide what sort economic model they wish to choose from. If you don't like that, why don't YOU find a passport.
