What is the most Northeastern Point of the United States?
My husband and I want to go to the furthermost Northeastern Point of the United States next year to be some of the first people to bring in 2013. Can anyone tell me? It will be in Maine I am sure.
OK..maybe I need to be more clear...to the person who answered Duh Maine...well I knew that. I want to know specifically what city...in Maine. Thank you.
I Want Northeast...and I want it in the United States. Not a territory ..Not East...I want Northeast. There is a reason...for what I ask. Thank you.

Technically the most eastern point in the continuous 48 states is West Quoddy Light House near Lubec, Maine.
However, you might actually see the first rays of sunlight from the top of Cadillac Mountain just east of Bar Harbor Maine. Cadillac Mountain is a popular place to be at sunrise on Jan 1. The view from the top of Cadillac Mountain is certainly awesome at sunrise, regardless of the date. Best part is you can drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain:)

Extreme points are only given for the cardinal directions: north, east, south, and west where they can be calculated using a line of latitude or longitude. There is no clear way to calculate the furthest most point for the ordinal directions.
The northernmost point in Maine is Estcourt Station. You can't even get there without driving through Quebec. And you have to check in with US Customs when the station is open, which has very few hours. The easternmost point in Maine is West Quoddy Head, an island in the town of Lubec.

Well, to be the first to start the New Year, you don't need to go north at all, just sufficiently east. Luckily, the US has several overseas possessions which are very far east. (Or very far west, of course, depending on how you look at it.) Some of these are uninhabited or only used by the military. The best one you could actually go to would be Guam; they're the first non-military Americans to start the new year.
