How long can a 2006 Honda Civic last?
Just wanted to know, how long one could expect a well taken care of, 2006 Honda Civic/EX, currently with 116,000 miles on it, could last? Knock on wood, I'm just blown away by how good it's been to me. Just got new tires put on it, and the new breaks I had put on at 80k, and 90k for rear and front are still kicking butt.
I've been debating trading it in, but I love the design and look of it so much, and the fact it's given me no major problems is what stops me...
Anyone out there with car experience have a good, reasonable guess as to how many miles I could keep her for?
Thanks!

The unanswerable questions in life...
How long is a piece of string? How high is up? How long will my car last?

As a Honda it could last a very long time. Look in the owners manual and make sure you do all the scheduled maintenance. For example coolant changes and transmission fluid changes. If you completely neglected them (e.g., coolant is deep brown instead of green) then now it could finally get a blown headgasket or broken tranny. But if you did basic maintenance then you have a long way to go.
Besides that Consumer Reports said a 5 year old Japanese car is more reliable than a brand new American car.

Honda engines and cars in general, I have found to be extremely reliable and are great cars. Every car is different and with that many miles on it, anything can happen. Parts inside the engine can be worn an may be weakened and could go wrong at anytime. To really tell the condition of it you'd have to take it apart and check it out. If its running good and has been fine I wouldn't worry at all though. A buddy of mine had 2 Hondas, one accord and one civic. He ran them both until 260k miles and they never gave him a problem, he just traded up. Good luck!

It literally has the potential to last forever. People get rid of high mileage Honda's when they want newer cars with newer technology. No one replaces their Honda because it dies. Unless the person drives very rough and revs high blowing the engine.
The most expensive repair on a Honda is $1000 for a complete engine rebuild and clean up, which is much cheaper than buying a new car for $10,000+
So my answer is: You can keep her for as long as you live.

That's why I got a Honda. I wanted a car that would just do what a car is supposed to do and that is to run without giving me trouble. My dad has one with 140k miles on it and it still does 0 to 60 within manufacturer specs and the engine is still running like it were new and the transmission is still shifting without jumping and we barely do anything to it. The only things we've had to do to it is replace the timing belt and water pump, spark plugs, and fix a minor fluke with the power steering pump. Most american cars are finished at this point and this car is still running like the day he drove it off the lot.

Over a million miles with proper maintenance. A man recently was gifted a brand new Honda Accord because his previous one ran for a million miles. Hondas are known for their reliability.

dude if your doing proper mainteance like u said u are, that car will last for ages... last month an accord rolled over 1 million miles, and its definatly not the only honda to do so, if you take care of any car it will last, but exspecially a honda!

If you do the proper maintenance in it when it needs it you should get almost 400,000 miles out if it if not more. The only major problems Honda's have are ignition & drive axle.
