No birds have to make the feathers water proof;;;;;;;
Birds feathers are NOT water proof,However they can make them water proof, With a wax they have in their own bodies and threw preening. The bird(s) rubs its head around/over the base of the tail where it picks up oil from the glands and a wax like substance to replace about the body on its feathers to protect it from water which in turn makes the feathers water proof.
Their is also a dusty powder within the closeness of the body that helps with the feathers it also comes from the feathers it constantly disintegrating into water proof powder.
