Lenovo Thinkpad Edge - Trackpad Issue?
My trackpad is not tracking the mouse at all. Nothing. It scrolls with the red button and the Pg Up/Down work, but I can't move the mouse because it's frozen in position. It works occasionally if I use a feather-light touch - but again only occasionally. This is super frustrating, especially since I just got it for Christmas. Does anyone have suggestions or ideas for fixing it?

reinstall UltraNav drivers (or whatever your model uses) from lenovo's site for your model laptop.
you didn't give a model number, so I can't give you specifics. it's on http://lenovo.com/ and you can look up troubleshooting or downloads and drrivers under Support.
other solution would be to turn on the touchpad. sometimes this is done with some model laptops using a physical button switch, some don't have a switch and instead use double-taps in a certain location of the touchpad (see your laptop manual for specifics about your model's touchpad).
until you get your issue resolved, you can use a cheap $13 kensington USB mouse from Fred Meyer's electronics dept to navigate just fine, or you can find one at an office supply store that you like.
see your manual regarding the touchpad, it probably works just fine, those hardly ever physically fail. my mom has Pentium III Dell laptop with a Synaptics touchpad... just to show you how long they typically last...
you can send the laptop back for warranty repair, but most liklely you will get a refurb, and possibly minus your data.
