The government would never, ever lie to the people. True or false?

Just curious to see what people's opinions are.

    false.

    Firstly, there are many governments in the past that have been proven to have lied to their people.

    Secondly, there are situations that call for a lie. Furthermore, is withholding information considered "lying?" If so, then definitely, the government lies all the time. It is not in the best interests of national security to divulge all information to all of its citizens. There are bad people in this world that would misuse the information; it simply cannot be expected.
